Seiko Faceted Crystal Vintage Automatic Watch (1973)

Seiko 6309-8049 – Vintage 1970s Automatic (Unmodified, Original)

Although we specialise in Seiko mods, this watch is not a mod. This is a genuine, unmodified Seiko 6309-8049 from the 1970s – exactly as it left the factory over 40 years ago.

What makes this piece stand out immediately is its stunning faceted crystal, which catches the light from every angle, paired with a vibrant textured blue dial that is pure vintage Seiko charm. This design is a perfect time capsule of the bold aesthetics Seiko experimented with in the early ’70s.

Condition

  • Very good vintage condition overall.

  • Light scratches and wear around the bezel, consistent with age.

  • Original faceted crystal in beautiful shape – the main highlight of this watch.

  • Bracelet and case remain sharp, with plenty of character.

Movement

  • Seiko 6309 automatic calibre

  • 17 jewels, 21,600 bph, ~40hr power reserve

  • Day-Date complication at 3 o’clock (English + Kanji on some models)

  • Tested on a timegrapher and runs within a suitable daily variance for its age

  • Please note: as this is a vintage watch, we cannot guarantee modern-day chronometer accuracy. Buyers should expect some variance in timekeeping.

Key Features

  • Reference: Seiko 6309-8049

  • Year: Circa early 1970s (approx. 1973)

  • Faceted crystal – rare and highly collectible feature

  • Textured gradient blue dial

  • Japan-made, genuine Seiko

Collector’s Note
Faceted-crystal Seikos from the early 1970s are becoming increasingly difficult to source in clean, original condition. The play of light across the cut glass, paired with Seiko’s experimental dials of the era, has made them highly collectible among enthusiasts. Many surviving examples are heavily worn or have had their crystals replaced — making an intact original like this a rarer find.

This Seiko is more than just a timepiece – it’s a slice of history. The bold dial pattern, unique faceted crystal, and timeless Japanese craftsmanship make it a standout for collectors and vintage lovers alike.
